A group of 25 veterinary doctors and animal husbandry officers from Sri Lanka have begun a tour of Kerala to study the State's initiatives in dairy farming.

Milked, the leading supplier of fresh milk in the organised sector in Punjab, is facing problems in meeting the increased demand of milk in the state. This has also resulted in a corresponding fall in the supply of Milkfed’s desi ghee in the market.

This summer, there was an increase of approximately 53,000 litres daily in the demand for Verka milk across Punjab. While the demand stood at an average of 7.87 lakh litres daily last year, it rose to 8.30 lakh litres daily this year.

Former Tamil Nadu Governor and Union Agriculture Minister, Surjeet Singh Barnala today called upon 10 dairy scientists to ensure that the research in the dairy sector was transferred to farmers, which could help them increase the milk production and yield.

As many as 78 dairy societies have been formed in Tikamgarh district under Bundelkhand special package. The societies have been constituted by Gwalior Dairy Federation, affiliated to MP State Cooperative Dairy Federation. These societies are collecting 4,300 litres of milk daily at present. Milk chilling plants have also been established in Tikamgarh and Jatara with a view to give a fillip to dairy activities.
