New Delhi: The Delhi high court has asked the Delhi Jal Board to place before it the rules relating to installation fee and rent payable for water meters. Justice Hima Kohli, in a recent order, asked the board to place the rules and regulations before it and in case DJB hasn’t made the rules, to frame it in eight weeks’ time and inform the high court.

The High Court yesterday stayed for 10 days the effectiveness of the environmental certificate issued by the Department of Environment (DoE) for implementation of a water supply project of Khulna City Corporation (KCC).

In response to a writ petition, the court also issued a rule upon the government to explain in 10 days why the DoE's decision to issue the certificate for Phultala Water Supply Project of KCC should not be declared illegal.

The HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim also fixed February 19 for hearing the rule.

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan high court has taken a serious note of illegal mining taking place in the state on a largescale, especially in the green belts and has constituted a special investigation team headed by Justice K S Choudhary, a former judge of Rajasthan High Court.

"The special investigation team constituted by the court has been asked to file a detailed report and visit sites of mining in the state.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the AP High Court issued notices to the state government and the HMWS&SB on a PIL against the decision to enhance water tariff. Forum for Good Governance secretary M. Padmanabha Reddy, filed the PIL contending that the decision is against to Article 21 of the Constitution.

MUMBAI: Is it possible to make cornea retrieval in all medico-legal cases without legal hassles, the Bombay HC asked the Centre on Monday while hearing a PIL on the underutilization of corneas. A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Ranjit More was hearing the PIL by Sampat Shetty which pointed out that underutilization of corneas has resulted in wastage, and that in the absence of monitoring agency , there was scope for tampering with the waiting lists.

The Supreme Court has directed the Bangalore City Cooperative Housing Society Ltd to return the vacant portion of the land it had acquired years ago to its rightful owners, holding that the land acquisition procedure by the state government was “illegal.”

A Bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly dismissed the society’s appeal against judgments by the Karnataka High Court in the case.

Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) raided on Monday two illegal dyeing units in Tirupur knitwear cluster.

The units were located at Pitchampalayam Pudur and Thottiamannarai and found discharging effluents into the open despite the Madras High Court directive last year asking dyeing/bleaching units to strictly follow zero liquid discharge in the dyeing process.
