It is in the very early stages, but the thinking in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Corporation is for the newly set up Solar Energy Corporation to put up a 1,000-MW solar park in the country.

Confirming this to Business Line, Mr Tarun Kapur, Joint Secretary in the Ministry, said that developing such a park would be one of the Corporation's activities.

A three-member, inter-ministerial committee has been formed to investigate Lanco Infrastructure for the company's alleged irregularities in bidding for solar projects under the National Solar Mission, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah, said on Sunday.

The committee would submit its report in one month, Dr Abdullah told Business Line at Coimbatore, where he had come to launch the 2-MW wind power turbine of Gamesa India.

New Delhi: Delhi’s solar mission is in trouble. The Delhi government had formulated a roof-top solar policy under which consumers would set up solar panels on their roof-tops and feed extra power generated into the main grid. Government officials, however, felt the scheme could be exploited on several grounds, a major violation being production of power through cheaper means and selling it to discoms at higher rates.

Despite uncertainties surrounding the solar REC scheme, several developers have shown interest in setting up solar projects in Karnataka under the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Scheme, the State had announced recently.

“Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL) has received proposals to set up 350 MW of solar projects under the REC scheme, and all of it will be allocated in a couple of months,” Mr N.S. Prasanna Kumar, told Business Line.

The Ministry will fund States to enable them to have better grid to evacuate power

The renewable energy sector in the country should focus on indigenisation, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah, said here on Monday. The wind sector was vital for India. The demand for energy was growing and the country should meet the power needs from all resources such as fossil fuel and nuclear power.

Gamesa India launched G97-2 MW wind turbines in India. It launched the G97 in the global market last year and has secured contracts to supply 356 MW worldwide.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah launched Gamesa's G97-2 MW turbine in India at the third International Wind Conference and Exhibition here on Sunday. The turbines are designed for low-wind sites.

Wind turbine major Gamesa on Sunday formally launched its 2 MW machine. The turbine was unveiled by the Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah, at the 3rd International Wind Conference and Exhibition here.

The machine comes with an in-built ‘conditioning monitoring system', which collects real time performance data. This feature, company officials explained, helps in preventive maintenance, and hence increases the turbine's uptime.

Renewable energy has become vital, says Farooq Abdullah

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah has urged the wind energy sector to focus on research. Wind machines were essential as they did not pollute. Renewable energy had become vital. India needed to have energy from different sources, such as fossil fuel and nuclear power.

Srinagar: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah has sanctioned over Rs 30 crore to the state police to install over 500 solar photovoltaic power plants at training centres, police stations and border police posts.

This is the fifth major solar energy initiative supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in the state in the current year, an official spokesman from New Delhi said yesterday.

NewDelhi: Lanco, the company accused by Delhi based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) of illegitimately cornering contracts worth Rs 13,000 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar mission, has objected to the allegations and said “they were not crosschecked with the company and were wrongly perceived”.
