Prof. Tapas Kumar Kundu of Bangalore-based Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research has won the G. D. Birla Award for his contributions in the field of bio-chemistry. The award, instituted by the K. K. Birla Foundation to accord recognition to high-calibre scientific research undertaken by Indian scientists below the age of 50, carries Rs.1.50 lakh in cash. — PTI

IMPHAL, Feb 7 – Manipur- based Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED), an NGO, has been awarded the Green Globe Foundation award 2012 for outstanding contribution at the grass root level critical issues of environment degradation besides generating mass awareness on pollution related issues. The award was handed over to the representatives of the CRED at an award distribution ceremony at Taj Palace in New Delhi on February 2.

Project Integrated Treasury Management System (iOTMS) of the Directorate of Treasuries & Inspection of finance department) has won the gold under the excellence in Best Government Portal category. The RTI Central Monitoring Mechanism (RTI CMM) of the state government has been selected for silver medal in the Best Government Portal category of National Award on e-Governance 2011-12.

Madhya Pradesh Forest Department has been honoured with the International Green Globe Foundation Award for outstanding achievement in environment sector, official sources said today.

The award was jointly given by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Vizcraft International, they said.

The award was given during Delhi Sustainable Development Summit-2012 held in New Delhi recently.

Shillong, Jan. 16: The Indian Science Congress Association Young Scientist Award 2011-12 was conferred on a Shillong scholar by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Jeremy Dkhar, a PhD in botany from the North Eastern Hill University (Nehu) received the award on January 4 during the 99th Indian Science Congress held at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar.

The award was introduced by the Indian Science Congress Association to encourage young Indian scientists in different disciplines of research.

Volkswagen AG's new assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is the first auto plant to receive the top environmental award from the U.S. Green Building Council, the company said on Thursday.

Frank Fischer, chief executive and chairman of Volkswagen Chattanooga, said that being green saves VW money on energy and water costs.

The plant's paint shop alone will save 50 million gallons of water over 10 years, VW said.

Moser Baer Solar Ltd (MBSL), a subsidiary of Moser Baer India Ltd, has been awarded ‘Green Leaf' mark by Intertek AB Semco, Germany, for its max series ‘lead free' solar photovoltaic modules.

According to a company statement, Intertek's Green Leaf mark certifies that the product has been independently tested and found to conform to the multiple existing environmental regulations.
