TINSUKIA: Gautom Roy, Minister of Public Health Engineering, inaugurated two water supply schemes under the Tinsukia division of the Public Health Engineering today. The minister inaugurated the Dhelakhat Water Supply Scheme of the Gotong Gaon Panchayat under the Guijan Development Block which will cover a population of nearly 1000 in an area by pipelines measuring 5.5 km with a reservoir of 80,000 litres. The scheme worth Rs 46.5 lakh was completed on December 31 last year.

DIBRUGARH: National Rural Health Mission, Tinsukia observed World AIDS Day with a day-long programme on Dec 1. TINSUKIA, Nov 15 – Situated in the extreme east of the State and 13 km north of Tinsukia city, Dibru-Saikhowa is one of the bio-diversity hotspots of the country. But rare avian species have been facing the threat of extinction here. If people are not aware about the need to conserve all this, soon the area will lose this rich bio-diversity as well as diverse avifauna in the coming years.

DIBRUGARH: Panic prevails in the Bordubi area in Tinsukia district following oozing out of natural gas from Oil India Limited’s well number 285 at Deosal Tea Estate under Bordubi police station from last 15 days. The situation turned worse when heavy emission of natural gas has been witnessed from 50 sq mtr area nearby OIL’s well in the night of Oct 18.

NEW DELHI, Aug 9 – Faced with pleas for maintaining status quo, the Ministry Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) is likely to firm up a strategy on transport subsidy.
At a meeting of the Industries Ministers of North-east states convened by Minister DoNER, Paban Singh Ghatowar, as part of the wider consultation process, there was a strong plea from Assam and Meghalaya to prepare a negative list to curb misuse of the subsidy scheme. Coke was identified as one item, which should be put in the negative list.
