The Union environment ministry has deferred clearance to the proposed cast steel wheel project of the Indian Railways at Saran district of Bihar, and has sought a slew of clarifications before a reconsideration.

PATNA: Altogether 18 children were born blind in the arsenic affected blocks of Bhojpur district during the past three months, Bihar Health Minister Nand Kishore Yadav confirmed.

The cause of the blindness was not yet known, but health department officials were in touch with ophthalmologists, he said.

OVER 1.2 lakh people of 12 districts of Bihar along the Ganga, including Patna, were affected by arsenic poisoning, admitted the Government in the State Legislative Council on Tuesday.
