Jaipur: The proposed Rajiv Gandhi Biosphere Reserve-an ambitious project connecting the major sanctuaries and national parks in the state through forest corridors-was approved by the state cabinet on Wednesday.

Jaipur: The peacocks in the state may soon be on the verge of extinction. Almost 10 peacocks are being poached every day in some part of the state. Even on Tuesday, over 12 peacocks were found dead while two others injured in a village near Pushkar.

The animal rights activists have raised a serious concern over dwindling population of the national bird in the state.

JODHPUR: Rajasthan is earning a notoriety for the poaching of the national bird ---- peacock. Wildlife activists and bird lovers feel the bird is in peril in the state.

JAIPUR: The state government on Thursday claimed that the Supreme Court has allowed it to construct a bridge across the Chambal River near village Makhida in Bundi district.

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has agreed in principle to include the Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary in Bundi in Project Tiger. However, a final nod from the authority will follow after a detailed plan is submitted to it by the state government. The NTCA decision follows a twoday visit by director Rajesh Gopal to the Ranthambore national park.

JAIPUR: Five nomads were taken into custody on Tuesday from the Indergarh Range of Bundi district in Rajasthan for alleged poaching of wild boars near the Chambal Crocodile Sanctuary.

The accused, said to be belonging to the hunter community of Mogya, are from neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.

There is good news in store for the lovers of wildlife and nature. Soon the wildlife sanctuaries of Kota, Darrah, Ramgarh, Bundi and Kubhalgarh will be improved and developed in the pattern of Ranthambhore National Park and the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of State Wildlife Advisory Board held on Wednesday.




The tiger has become the latest expression of political correctness. Look around: schoolchildren on roads, national icons on screens and big brands in campaign mode. The government has pumped in additional funds. Conservation NGOs are mushrooming in all corners of India. Green blogging is catching on like wildfire.
