Bhopal : Farmers in Madhya Pradesh will be able to lift additional quantity of fertilisers without any additional interest from March 1. This important decision for saving farmers from difficulty in getting fertilisers was taken at a meeting of the Agriculture Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today. Farmers can obtain chemical fertilisers from their nearest society on first come first serve basis.

Bhopal : Considerable reduction in transmission losses has been registered in the state during the last nine years. The percentage of transmission losses was 7.93 in the year 2002-03, which has come down to 3.74 in the year 2010-11. The Power Transmission Company has chalked out a comprehensive action plan for strengthening and upgrading the transmission grid in Madhya Pradesh. Work of laying 18.47 circuit kilometer transmission lines was completed in the year 2010-11. The capacity of high-tension sub-stations was increased by 2193 MVA.

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the Centre to constitute a special committee for assessing the quantum of soil and water pollution around the Union Carbide premises here. In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chouhan urged the Centre to assess the quantum of soil and water polluted around the defunct Union Carbide plant and added that the state government will extend full cooperation in achieving this task, official sources said on Thursday.

Bhopal : NABARD chief general manager S Akbar on Wednesday said 8% agriculture growth in the last fiscal in Madhya Pradesh is an encouraging development given that 70% people are dependent on agriculture in the state. “This financial year, the state government wants to rev up agriculture growth to 10%,” Akbar said at a seminar on agriculture finance organised by the Bank of India in the city. The city should maintain the growth pace to scale new heights in agriculture production, he said.

Bhopal : Survivors of Bhopal gas tragedy will go on indefinite dharna from Tuesday demanding that actual figures of those killed and injured be presented before the Supreme Court when the curative petition comes up for hearing. Non-government organisations (NGOs) fighting for the tragedy survivors allege despite assurances by the chief minister, government has done nothing in the matter. The NGOs said government needs to act to set the record straight so that victims, waiting for justice for more than 25 years, can get succour.

Bhopal : BJP state unit fears if the National Food Security Bill is passed in its present form, it will deprive at least 28% real beneficiaries in the state.
The Central government tabled the Bill aimed at ensuring cheap foodgrains to the poor on December 22 during the just concluded winter session of Parliament. The Bill, if passed, will legally entitle 63.5% of the population for cheap foodgrains.

Bhopal/Shivpuri : Even as the state government claims drastic decline in mortality rate in comparison to previous year in 2011, NGOs claim the figure has been exaggerated. According to state government 9000 infants were saved following installation of Neonatal Intensive Care units at district hospitals across the state. Citing decline of 62 per cent (per 1000 infants) in infant mortality rate, officials said that they have saved over 25,000 children in the last 5 years. The mortality was 76 per thousand in2005.

Bhopal : Driven by this year’s record rainfall and increased cultivation area of wheat, pulses and other crops, Madhya Pradesh’s agriculture growth is likely to cross 10% this fiscal. Beating extreme weather conditions, MP clocked 9% agricultural growth, surpassing the national average of 0.04% in 2009. The state achieved the growth rate despite widespread drought and 35% deficient rainfall in the year.
