This document contains the basic information to serve as guide for adopting the renewable energy by common man.The document has two parts:
1) Biogas for Common Man, and 2) Solar Photovoltaic Power for Urban Households.

Power distribution company Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited is getting ready to implement a new initiative that will not only save the company money, but will also save the grid from collapsing when the demand rises exponentially and the frequency falls on account of heavy overdrawal. The company has got the approval of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission to implement the auto demand response programme that will regulate supply of electricity to big consumers when the demand rises and the grid is put under severe pressure.

Solar mission is too important to let doubtful dealings hijack it.

In public perception the renewable energy sector is a do-good sector that promises environment-friendly and affordable energy. It is for this reason that this sector gets overwhelming support from all sections of society. Civil society organisations, including the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), have worked hard over the years to increase awareness about renewable energy and have pushed the government policy towards ambitious programmes.

New Delhi: In violation of government norms, a single company, Lanco Infratech has allegedly cornered 40% of the contracts bid out for the first phase of the National Solar Mission, garnering projects with assured revenue of Rs 13,000 crore over the next 25 years, including a large subsidy that the consumers will end up paying. Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on Wednesday released documents showing how the company allegedly created fronts to side-step the rules and win much more than the 105MW worth contracts it was legally allowed to.

Country’s varied topography, space constraint make it an uphill task, they say. The telecom industry is finding it difficult to implement the recent directions issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on cutting carbon emissions. DoT had issued directions on January 4, wherein it asked the service providers to frame a Carbon Credit Policy detailing methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

India's ambitious solar mission has faltered in its first step. LANCO Infratech subverted government rules to corner a major share of solar capacity in first phase of the mission. This is an investigative report on the scam by Centre for Science and Environment in Down To Earth.

Kolkata-based crystalline photo voltaic module maker as well as EPC contractor; Vikram Solar Group, announced the commissioning of 2 MW grid-connected solar power project at Khaora, in Chhattisgarh. While solar PV modules are manufactured by Vikram Solar at its facility at Falta Special Economic Zone near Kolkata; the EPC contracts are carried out by its joint venture arm, Vikram Proener Projects. The company has already commissioned a 5 MW solar power plant project in Gujarat in December 2011. Other projects in the pipeline include one each in Rourkela (Orissa) and Bamra (Orissa).

Government asks service providers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With an aim to minimise carbon emissions from the fast-growing telecom sector in India, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked service providers to frame a Carbon Credit Policy, detailing methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The directions were issued on January 4 after much deliberation over the recommendations made by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in its report, Approach towards green telecommunications, submitted last year.

The ministry of new and renewable energy expects that 400 MW solar power will flow to the grid by the end of this financial year as many projects awarded last year are nearing completion, two government officials said. The ministry has so far achieved 183-MW generation capacity since the solar mission was launched in January last year with a thin generation base of 3 MW, they said.
“The optimism is also reflected in aggressive investors’ bids that lead to its tariff falling significantly below regulated rates,” said an official who did not wish to be identified.
